British TESOL CPD - LEVEL 5
INTRODUCTION
The TESOL Course is offered as a top-up qualification to participants who have been teaching English language on a professional basis, but do not hold a recognized teacher status qualification in the subject area.
This course is therefore a means of providing existing teachers with a qualification that validates the work they have already been doing to provide them with evidence of their experience in order to support their future professional and educational plans. It also establishes good practice for continuing professional development (CPD).
The TESOL Course's teaching and learning materials are designed and developed by Imperial English UK (IEUK), which is an evolving and innovative UK brand with a growing reputation for excellence in education.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES
This qualification has been designed to provide the underpinning knowledge and skills required to teach English as a second language. Participants will develop skills in English language usage, teaching and assessment, teaching skills, developing and evaluating teaching materials and will be able to reflect on their own performance and professional development.
The TESOL Course gives participants the opportunity to:
• Explore and enhance the skills necessary to become a competent and capable English language teacher
• Validate and recognise his/her experience of teaching English language
• Develop new skills and knowledge that can be immediately applied
• Prepare to take up positions in educational establishments or to work independently
• Gain access to higher education pathways, such as a Master's degree
ADMISSION CRITERIA
To enroll on the Course participants must meet the following criteria:
1. When English is not the first language of the candidate, the successful applicant is required to have a level of competence in English appropriate to the intended scheme of study. The minimum competence level is ESOL Level 2 or IELTS 6.0 equivalent. A certificate issued by Imperial English UK is acceptable. The Imperial English UK’s English Diagnostic Assessment App will be used for English assessment purposes for applicants without evidence of IELTS bands.
2. Have been teaching English amounting to at least 380 hours over the last 2 years (references & a personal statement required).
3. Have a minimum undergraduate diploma qualification or equivalent / higher
Every application is considered on an individual basis. IEUK will ensure careful monitoring of applications to ensure that they are suited to the course. Where necessary, applicants may be interviewed especially those who do not appear to meet the standard admissions criteria. Where deemed appropriate, a written exercise might also be administered to establish suitability.

DELIVERY
The TESOL Course is delivered face-to-face and through live online interaction via workshops, seminars, discussions, assignments, oral presentations, classroom activities, online simultaneous communication and teaching assessments. The sessions are designed to be thought-provoking, interactive and enjoyable.
The duration of delivery is 30 hours, plus a compulsory teaching practice observation and self-study. The length of the course reflects the relevant prior learning / teaching experience of participants. Please note that participants are responsible for arranging their own teaching practice sessions.
The TESOL course can be offered as a bespoke course and offers flexibility in delivery. It can either be delivered in the host country or organised in the UK.
TRAINERS
IEUK have an extensive team of qualified trainers with experience for delivering the course overseas. The teacher trainers are individuals with enthusiasm for their subject areas in terms of updating their specialist knowledge and imparting their experience and expertise to others.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE
Assessment on the Course will be carried out in accordance with the awarding body’s academic regulations. A maximum of six weeks will be given to participants to submit the required assessment.
Part 1: Pedagogy skills theory & background reading (with assessment tasks and a learner written essay on the module)
Part 2: Essay of 1700-2000 words
Part 3: Teaching Practice
• Minimum 90 minutes (+90 minutes of planning) of trainee Teaching Practice (recording accepted) to minimum 5 students per class
• Minimum 45 minutes peer observations of other participants (if face-to-face of colleagues if distance)
• Minimum 1 activity that shows evidence of participant’ skills in materials development
Each trainee is observed and assessed by a tutor. With each lesson the trainee should submit:
• A class / Learner profile
• Lesson plan
• Copy of materials used in the lesson
• Self-reflection / evaluation of the lesson (500 words)
AWARD
Upon successful completion of the course students will receive a Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as A Second Language (TESOL Top-up)

INTRODUCTION
The course is designed to set you up with the skills, knowledge, and expertise needed to start teaching English as a foreign language and become truly professional in TESOL.
You do not need to be an English language expert: initial training will give you the teaching skills and language knowledge you need to enter the classroom or teach online.
You can help people from all over the world to learn English in order to achieve education or career ambitions, or because they want to speak a global language and participate in the global community.

• for the participants to identify factors that impact on and influence learning and language learning in particular
• for participants to demonstrate teaching skills and an awareness of good classroom practice
• for participants to demonstrate an ability to reflect on their experiences, thereby evidencing use of the experiential learning cycle.

Assessment: 80% attendance required.
AWARD
Upon successful completion of the programme all participants are awarded the Professional Certificate of Achievement in British TESOL CPD Training.
VERIFICATION
The certificate copy is available for online verification on the IEUK website.
PROGRESSION
This qualification enhances job opportunities and provides access to further higher education qualifications e.g. progression to the Level 5 TESOL in Teaching English, an MA in ELT/TESOL.

ASSESSMENT
No formal assessment is required. The self-study provides opportunities for reflection and updating knowledge. In the live online workshops participants will be expected to contribute to activities during the workshops through discussion and interaction with peers in breakout rooms, submitting chat box comments, online voting and being invited to share experiences and views with everyone present in the session. Interactive and participative methods will be built into the workshops.
